Community of Divya Jyothi
Way down in 1971 after the Vatican II the Institute introduced several experimental activities. One of the decisions was to have smaller communities for better interaction, intrapersonal relationship, deeper fraternal life among the sisters, smooth functioning, better sharing and better community life and above all better living of our Charism of Communion.
To bring these to effect the one big community of St. Joseph’s convent was formed into three smaller communities, namely Shanthi Nilaya, Prasan Niketan and Nava Jeevan in the year 1976. These communities shared a common kitchen, but each had its own refectory, community room and its own community programmes. All these were done with the hope for deeper prayer life both personal and community; for deeper fraternal life and for building communion in our ministries.
In the year 2000, the evaluation of the community of Shanthi Nilaya was done and it was observed, it was still, a larger community. So, it was further decided to bifurcate it into two communities. Thus the community of Divya Jyothi was born in the same year. Holy Angels’ Higher Primary school was attached to this community as its ministry along with the pastoral ministry. The community shared the same kitchen with a dining room for itself. The community consisted of the members who were part of Holy Angels’ school and a few senior sisters. Late Sr. Leotade was appointed as its first animator. The community carries on today focusing on its mission and ministry having the senior most Sr. Clotilda who is 97 years old. The members try to be lights, to remain true the name of the community-“Divya Jyothi’
