Kottur – Aikiyalaya

During the Regional Assembly of Jeevan Dhara Region, it was proposed that Sisters move out more and more towards interior villages of the neighbouring Southern States.

In accordance with this proposal, the Assembly decided to open a new foundation at Kottur, in Dharmapuri, Tamil Nadu.

The Diocese of Dharmapuri has 27 parishes and one among them is Bargur Parish. This was offered to us for our new foundation. About 32 families live in Kottur, a place 8 kms away from Bargur.

On the 8th of May 2003 Sr. Marie Gabrielle, our Superior General, authorized the Region through the Provincial, Sr. Euphrasia to open this foundation. Son on the 5th of June 2003 Sr. Euphrasia, along with Sr. Maria Theresa met the Bishop to request him to bless the new foundation. The Bishop accepted to do it gladly and then blessed and declared the community open on the 17th of June 2003.

Srs. Nirmala A., Superior, Irudayamary and Ezhilarasi were the pioneers. This is the first new foundation of Jeevan Dhara Region.

The Sisters’ mission is threefold as in all our social service centres. They have a clinic for health care, where Sr. Nirmala, the nurse works.

The Sisters bore all inconvenience involved, staying in a rented house almost for three years. Later they were blessed with a new house, inaugurated on 26th February 2006.
