Chiranga
In 1995 our sisters from Ambikapur were searching for a place for formation house in the North. At that time the diocese of ambikapur was ready to offer us some place in Chiringa, which was 30km from Ambikapur. It was part of Baraom parish.
When Sr. Genevieve Ponnu, Superior General visited us in the year 1996, she was able to meet people in Chiringa and they submitted a memorandum in their own language expressing their desire to have sister sin their midst. The Parish Priest Fr. Karamvir was the activist behind the curtain and Sr. Maria Theresa was the mediator. Sr. Genevieve Ponnu was touched by the simplicity of the people and understood the need for the sisters to help them through pastoral, social, educational and health apostolate.
August 1998 Chiringa became a satellite community. Our sisters from Ambikapur visted the people and stayed whenever possible mainly for feast and celebrations. After making contract with RAHA health center building constructed with the help of Fr. Karamvir. 1997 Chiringa was declared as a Parish. Once the health center was ready sr. Kanthi Indwar and Sr. Abitha both Junior sisters stayed in health center. Sr. Kanthi was teaching in primary school run by the parish and Sr. Abitha was visiting the villages with help of Balwadi teachers.
21st January 1999 Chiringa was declared as an independent community with Sr. Irene lobo as a Superior and Srs. Kanthi and Abitha as community members.
At present there are sisters, involved in pastoral, teaching and taking care girls’ hostel.
