Mayapur
The Spirit which blows over the hamlet of Cantaous, built to blow over Bihar in the beginning of 2nd century, of the Sr. of St. Joseph’s of Tarbes in 1982. It was decided after 1980 and later in the enlarged to say yes to the spirit to be led in North on India. Under the guidance of the Holy Spirit Sr. Margret Mary the Provincial Superior and her councilors selected sr. Maria Theresa, Sr. Lily Ezinikatt and Sr. Josphine James. On 11th of Sept. 1982 these sisters along with Sr. Margret Mary and Regina left Bangalore and arrived at Ranchi on 13th of Sept 1982. It was the providence of God that Fr. Savri Muthu was there to welcome our sisters in Ranchi station. From Ranchi they travelled to Daltonganj Bishops House .There Rt. Rev. Bishop George Supine welcomed our sisters warmly. On14th Sept. 1982 the feast of Exaltation of the Holy Cross our sisters arrived at Mayapur. The people of Mayapur welcomed them with traditional welcoming ceremony. The Gram Mukhya (Village Head) Mr. Benjamin Barwa provided two rooms for them to stay and some utensils.
Our sisters were trained to speak in Hindi and Oroan and accompanied to different villages to know the culture of the places under the guidance of Holy Cross Sisters. At that time the main apostolate was social, medical and pastoral. Our sisters were deeply committed and highly enthusiastic to give faith formation to our tribal people and to empower the people in every aspect of life. Their selfless service is bearing fruit today. Under the guidance of the Holy Spirit, Sr. Mercy Jacob The Superior General , Sr. Philomena Cardoza The Provincial Superior, Sr. Theresa Paul the Regional Superior felt the urgent need of opening the school so that children will remain with the parents and experience their love and affection rather than staying in the hostel far away. At the same time people also expressed their desire to have a school at Mayapur run by the Sisters of Saint Joseph of Tarbes. The long awaited desire, dream of Sisters and people came into reality on 18th June 2012. On this day St. Joseph’s school Mayapur was inaugurated by Rt. Rev. Bishop Gabriel Kujur , CCMBE Director Fr. Ignatius Tirkey most solemnly . At that time the number of students was only 53. At present the total strength of the students are 433, with 15 teachers and 2 non –teaching staffs.
