Suman Niketan
The community of Champion Reefs was a large one. The Sisters from there used to extend their services to the neighbouring parishes and people. Some of the Sisters used to teach in the Parish Primary School. As mentioned earlier, the Church and the Institute were moving towards forming smaller communities for better community life and mission.
So in the very compound of Champion Reefs there emerged another community named – ‘ Suman Niketan’. The Sisters stayed in the building, which now houses the Private School.
Each Sister continued her mission staying in Suman community from 1973 to 1977. A technical institute with tailoring, needlework and typing was opened in 1973 in the Convent by the Province, with a strength of 10, recognized by the Government. The girls who passed out if this course would get a government certificate, qualifying them for a job.
The Archbishop blessed the new house on 15th August 1977, the Foundation Day of the Institute.
The pioneers were Srs. Jane de Chantal ( Superior ), Theresa Maria, Noela, Annunciation Lilly, John de Britto and John the Baptist.
